Minimize "James" Daily Devotional

Read about 3 verses of James and meditate on them all day, and by the end of the month see what God shows you about His will for your life!  Check out a daily devo on James.  A few verses are posted for each day.  You are welcome to comment on the verses and discuss them as we go.

2012 Event and Theme Calendar

This School Year, our theme is 'Follow.' Many people say that they believe in Christ as their Savior, but do they obey Him? Grace is free, but we receive it through understanding the lordship of Jesus Christ! Easy to understand? Yes. Hard to do? You bet. Worth it? Absolutely.

2012 Permission Form

We have a NEW 2012 version of the parent permission form that will cover all activities that the youth do in the State of Kansas for the entire calendar year of 2012. The trustees have approved this form and so parents need only fill out one form for the whole year unless we go out of state. The new form is available here on our website (in the links on the lower-left-hand part of this webpage) or outside Nathan's office (the yellow-colored paper in the top left-hand box).

Minimize Grand Vision

The youth ministry has a mission to follow Christ. We want to see kids that seek God, share life together, and give back to the Kingdom. The mission statement for the youth will be to Seek God, Share Life, and Give Back (sound familiar?).

Seeking God is paramount to a Christian’s initial salvation and maturity, and will be seen in the youth Bible studies and worship sessions as we encourage one another with real-life experiences of God's provision and challenge each other with real scripture to become more like Jesus through obedience to Him.

Sharing Life helps us to grow together and support one another and will be seen in the fellowship and fun of the group, but also through the real-life community that we share as we hold one another accountable to our walk in Christ.

Giving Back is our natural response to what God has given us, and the youth will be given the opportunity to serve others in ministries here at the church and also off-site.

The members of the youth group should move from seeking God to sharing life to finally giving back as they grow in Christ! The mission statement is our process, so it’s easy to explain to anyone that asks, “so what is your youth group all about?” Well, we seek God, share life together, and give back to the Kingdom! We seek God in study and worship, share life in fun times and community together, and give back in ministry as a natural response to what God has done for us! You might be interested to know that this is also the mission statement of the Children’s Church ministry here at Antioch; we want to see kids that share those passions as well!

Here's a concept I came up with when I was reading in Romans. A bit violent, perhaps, and probably too much so for a real-produced film, but here it is anyway. Tell me what you think:

Movie Short Concept
Setting:

A crew on a ship has a beautiful woman on board, named Hamartea (Greek for "sin"). The scene opens with the captain considering how best to dispense with her, since she has killed some of the crew and kept them from their mission.

Scene 1

The captain decides to lower Hamartea in a lifeboat and tie the boat to the ship by means of a long rope.

Scene 2

Hamartea uses her wiles and keeps trying to convince the crew to let her come back on board. Some of them feed her occasionally – even when she says, “I’ll kill you, you know. I want you so bad.”

Scene 3

Eventually, she is brought back on board one night because she is so convincing. She then kills the whole crew…

Scene 4

Zoom out through the captain’s eye back to the deck when he first was deciding what to do with her. “I know you. I know your name, Hamartea. You’re sin.” Her smile fades. He seizes her and throws her unceremoniously off the side of the ship. “What are you doing?” a crewman yells. The captain draws his gun and we hear a shot. “Make no provision for the flesh,” the captain says. “Mr. Smith, set a course. We’ve got a mission to complete.”

Romans 13:14 – “But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.”
