 Edit Your Profile

 
After you are successfully logged in you may want to change your password, especially if it is one of those randomly generated ones, and edit your profile. Your profile is a place where you can record all sorts of information about yourself that you may or may not want to share with other people on the website. You can choose what information others may access and what information that only the site administrators can access.
 
To get started editing your profile, move your pointer over the word “Home” in the menu across the top of the page and you will see a drop-down menu appear. Click on “Your Profile.” You will get the following page:
 
 
On this page you can change your Display Name or your Email Address. If you make any changes click on the word “Update” to save them. 
 
To change your password, click on the words “Manage Password.”   Or to edit your profile click on the words “Manage Profile.” You also have an option of “Manage Services,” but you will not need to do anything with that option at this time. It is geared toward paid subscribers and we are not using that.
If you wish to start all over with your registration or remove yourself from being registered on the website, you can also click on the word “UnRegister.” Probably the only reason you might want to do that is if you wish to change your User Name to something else and start all over.
 
Manage Password
 
First, let’s click on the words “Manage Password.” You will get a screen that looks like this:
 
 
You will need to enter your Current Password. This is the password that you used to get logged in. Then, type in your New Password and type it again to confirm it. Both the New Password and the Confirm Password entries must match exactly for this to work. Now click on the words “Change Password” to save the changes.
 
Manage Profile
 
Now you are going to edit Your Profile. This is a place where you can put in information about yourself that you want others to be able to see. You can even choose who can see specific pieces of information. The site administrators can see everything, but others can only see your information if you give them permission.
 
So, let’s get started. Click on the words “Manage Profile” at the top of the “User Profile” page and you will get the following page:
 
 
 
 
 
You will see that your real First Name, Last Name, Time Zone, and Preferred Local are automatically filled in. Filling in any of the other blocks of information is optional. You will want to make sure that your Time Zone says “(UTC –06:00) Central Time (US & Canada)” if you are currently in Central Standard Time Zone, as Wichita is, so that your times on your website will be correct. This is especially important when you use the Discussion Forum and Calendar. You will also want to make sure that the Preferred Locale says “English (United States).”
 
Since I don’t particularly want just anybody to know most of my information, most of the information I fill in, I will make sure that the “Admin Only” circle by “Visibility” is marked but there are some things that I might like others to know about so I would click on either the “Public” or “Members Only” visibility. (If you click on “Public” anyone visiting the site can see it but if you click on “Members Only” only registered members that are logged in can see it.)
1.                   I might want people to know that I live in Wichita, KS, so I would fill in “City” and “Region.” That way, if I communicate with someone on the Discussion Forum and I would like to get together with them for some reason, they would know if that is practical logistically, or not. Say, perhaps, someone posts on the Discussion Board that they have a dresser they would like to sell or give away and I need a dresser. If that person lives in Kansas City it will be more difficult to pick it up than if they live in the same town as I do.
2.                   If I am connected to another website, such as a club website, that I would like other people to visit if they have like interests, I might want to put that website address in the “Website” box.
3.                   If I like to talk to people on the computer using Instant Messaging, I might want to put my “IM” user name in that box so others can find me and send me messages when I am on-line and ready to chat.
4.                   There are a lot of things you can share in the “Biography” box. You could let everyone know what your interests and hobbies are, you could also put your personal testimony, or your favorite Bible verse. This is just a place where people can get to know you a little better so you can find common interests and things to talk about especially in the Discussion Forum or the Chat Room (both of which will come in later lessons).
 

After you have made all your changes, click the word “Update” to save those changes.
