Lesson 101 – Register, Login, and Editing Your Profile

 

Are you having difficulty with using this website?  Here is a detailed lesson on how to Register, Login, and Edit your profile so you can get started having fun with the website.

 

Registering on the Website

 

On the “Home” page of the website you will see two places where you can Register and Login to

the website, one at the top of the page and the other in the left column of the page.  Either place will work.  In fact, when you click on the word “Login” at the top of the page, it will take you to exactly the same module as you see in the left column.

 

 

You may be trying to get on the site from scratch or from an e-mail that you received.  The process is the same, except that if you received an e-mail, the registration process has already been done for you.  If you are logging in for the first time from an e-mail, you can go ahead and skip down to the section entitled “Login for the First Time”

 

The first thing you need to do to register on the site is to click on the word “Register” at the top of the page or in the left column. It will take you to the following screen:

 

1.                   Type in your “User Name.”  This will be a name that you will be known as on this website.  It is a permanent user name and cannot be changed without deleting your registration.

2.                   Type in your real First Name.  Depending on what you check in your profile, only the site administrators will be able to see your real name.

3.                   Type in your real Last Name.

4.                   Type in your “Display Name.”  Make it something that is easy to remember for you and for other people.  This name can be changed later if you wish. (It should show up in the “Users Online” module when you are logged on so that other people will know you are present on the site.  This will come in handy when you are using the Discussion Forum.  But we’ll talk more about that when we get to the lessons on the forum.)

5.                   Type in your “Email Address.”  You must have an active email address in order to register on the site because to complete the registration, you must go get information from an email and then come back to complete the registration.  (This is to keep “spammers” from registering on the site).

6.                   Type in a password.  Make a password that is easy for you to remember or write it down and keep it where you can find it easily.  The password must be at least 7 characters and may contain capital letters, lower case letters, numbers and symbols.  In fact, the most secure passwords will contain all of those characters.  The password is “caps sensitive,” in other words, capital letters will be read differently than lower case letters.

7.                   Type in your password again.

8.                   Click on the word “Register.”  You should get a page with the following information:

 

Login for the First Time

 

This is a one-time login.  You will not ever have to do the following instructions again after the first time.

 

1. Go to your email and look for an email from Antiochchurch.  It will look like this:

2. Make note of your Verification Code.  If you do not use the highlighted link back to the website, you will need it to complete the registration.
3. Copy and paste the highlighted link into your web browser (the line at the top of your Internet Explorer page where you type in web addresses) and push enter or click on the arrow to go to that web page.  You should get the following page:

Your User Name and Verification Code should already be filled in if you have used the link provided in the email but you will need to copy and paste your password from the email or type it in.  If you are registering from an email you received you will have a random password that may be difficult to type correctly so it may be better to copy and paste it.  (If you ever forget what your password is you can click on “Forgot Password?” and an email will be sent to you with your password.
5. You now have an option of clicking on the box beside “Remember Login.”  If you click in this box, the website should go ahead and insert your password each time you Login.  You may or may not want to choose this at this point.  If you are planning to change your password don’t click it now.
6. Click on the word “Register” and your registration is complete so you will be automatically logged into the website.

 

From now on, whenever you login you can just put your “User Name” (not your Display Name if it is different) and your “Password” in the Login box on the home page.
